Kollywood is currently witnessing a strong wave of star kids making their entry into the industry. While it’s already known that Thalapathy Vijay’s son Jason Sanjay is making his debut — not as an actor but as a director — another popular star’s son is now stepping into the limelight.
Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi’s son, Surya Sethupathi, is all set to make his acting debut with the film Phoenix. This film is directed by renowned stunt choreographer Anl Arasu and is scheduled for release in July.
Ahead of the film’s release, Surya opened up about his incredible physical transformation for the role. He shared, “Before the film began, I used to weigh 120 kgs. It took me over a year and a half to lose weight and get into shape. The first six months were extremely tough — adapting to a new diet was a huge challenge.”
He continued, “I completely avoided sugar and oil, and stayed away from all kinds of foods that could lead to weight gain. During this period, I also trained in mixed martial arts, which helped me immensely with my body transformation.”
Speaking about how he got into films, Surya said, “I’ve always wanted to be in the movies. I was on the sets of Jawan, where my dad was working, and that’s when Anl Arasu noticed me. He told the story of Phoenix to my father, who in turn told him to go ahead and speak to me. He said it was entirely my choice whether I wanted to enter films or not.”
Things moved quickly from there — Surya liked the story, agreed to the role, and the film was set in motion. Now, all eyes are on this star kid as he steps into the industry. It remains to be seen how successfully Surya Sethupathi carries forward his father’s legacy.
