Talent vs. Story: Nandu’s 2026 Challenge

Share

Talented actor Nandu stepped into 2026 with high hopes, featuring in two contrasting roles that released on January 1. He played the lead in Psych Siddhartha and took on a negative-shaded politician in Vanaveera (earlier titled Vaanara). On screen, Nandu once again proves he is a compelling performer—but as cinema repeatedly reminds us, talent alone isn’t enough to guarantee success.

Despite his unwavering commitment, Psych Siddhartha is struggling to gain momentum at the box office. The film opens on a promising note with a slick setup, but soon loses grip due to a messy narrative and uneven progression. Nandu’s transformation for the role—including a significant weight loss—and the fact that he self-financed the project speak volumes about his dedication. However, the chaotic structure and inconsistent engagement make the film a tough watch, reinforcing the age-old truth that even strong performances can’t rescue weak storytelling.

Vanaveera, on the other hand, suffers from a lacklustre plot and underwritten drama that fails to translate effectively onto the screen. The execution feels dated, and the film lacks a compelling hook to sustain interest. Still, Nandu stands out as a politician with negative shades, delivering a solid performance that once again highlights his range. Unfortunately, even this antagonist role doesn’t bring him the success he was aiming for.

While audiences and critics can appreciate Nandu’s dedication and versatility—handling both a lead role and a villain with ease—the twin disappointments underline a crucial reality. To truly break through, sharper script choices and stronger storytelling are just as vital as performance. For an actor of Nandu’s calibre, the potential is clearly there; what he now needs are the right stories to match his talent.
