The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), renowned for its cadre-based structure, has always placed a strong emphasis on the role of party activists, considering them as the crucial link between leadership and the masses. The party is poised to achieve a significant milestone in its membership drive, with the number of activists expected to reach a staggering one crore in the near future.
From its inception, TDP founder and legendary actor N.T. Rama Rao underscored the importance of the cadre, believing that dedicated activists are the backbone of the party. His vision was to provide recognition and support to those who have demonstrated loyalty and commitment, promoting them to higher positions and offering financial assistance to their families.
When N. Chandrababu Naidu became the party president, the emphasis on strengthening the cadre deepened, with greater resources, amenities, and political elevation provided to loyal activists.
Building on this tradition, TDP scion N. Lokesh recently announced an ambitious initiative: the party has partnered with United India Insurance and Pragmatic Insurance Broking to offer insurance coverage to one crore party activists. This marks the first time in TDP’s history that such an extensive insurance plan has been implemented.
Under this agreement, the TDP has paid a premium of Rs 42 crore for the insurance cover of one crore activists, effective from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025. The premium amount will be renewed for the subsequent year as well. In the event of an accident, each activist will be entitled to a Rs 5 lakh insurance payout.
The pact was formalized at the minister’s residence in Undavalli, where N. Lokesh and representatives from United India Insurance and Pragmatic Insurance Broking signed the agreement. Lokesh highlighted that he has already spent Rs 138 crore on the welfare of TDP activists since taking over the Activists’ Welfare Fund.
The TDP also continues to support its activists beyond financial assistance. The party has established a legal wing to provide aid to activists who have been wrongfully implicated in legal cases under the previous government. A special rehabilitation cell has been set up at the party headquarters for activists who have been injured in accidents.
Moreover, the party extends its support to the families of deceased activists by offering their children free education at residential schools run by the NTR Trust in Charlapalli (Telangana) and Krishna district.
Through these efforts, N. Lokesh shared the details of the party’s welfare activities via social media, garnering widespread appreciation from TDP activists.
The TDP’s commitment to its cadre is a testament to the party’s belief that any political organization can only succeed if it is built on the foundation of dedicated, service-oriented activists. This is evident from the numerous times TDP activists have stepped forward to help during natural disasters, such as cyclones and floods, earning the respect and gratitude of the public.
