The ongoing controversy between actor Sivaji and television anchor Anasuya continues to evoke strong reactions from film personalities, with opinions divided across the industry and social media. The issue began after Sivaji’s remarks on actresses’ clothing choices sparked widespread debate.

Veteran actor Suman has now weighed in, offering a measured and nuanced perspective. While he clearly stated that Sivaji’s choice of words was inappropriate and unacceptable, Suman also noted that the actor had already issued an apology for his remarks.

At the same time, Suman urged that the discussion be viewed from a broader perspective. Drawing examples from senior actresses and dancers such as Silk Smitha, Jayamalini, and Vijayalalitha, he observed that although they appeared in bold costumes on screen as part of their roles, they maintained a simple and dignified lifestyle off screen.

Suman emphasised that cinema and personal life are two different spaces and that artists must clearly understand this distinction. He recalled that earlier generations of actors approached cinema with a high level of discipline and professionalism, knowing when certain attire or behaviour was appropriate and when it was not.

Highlighting the need for maturity and guidance, Suman added that such understanding often develops over time, particularly among younger artistes. He suggested that constructive dialogue, rather than prolonged confrontation, would help the industry move forward.
