Hyderabad police have arrested a 16-year-old girl, her boyfriend Pagilla Shiva Kumar (19), and another juvenile in connection with the murder of the girl’s mother, 39-year-old folk singer Satla Anjali. The victim, who performed under a Telangana government cultural scheme, was found dead in her Shapurnagar home on Monday night, with ligature marks around her neck indicating strangulation.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Suresh Kumar, officers cracked the case swiftly, taking the three suspects into custody within 24 hours of the complaint. The victim’s sister, Thangellapally Shobha of Gundlapochampally, filed the report early Tuesday after discovering Anjali’s body supine in the kitchen.
Investigators learned that the teenage accused daughter had been in a relationship with Shiva Kumar, a local DJ operator and second-year intermediate student from Nalgonda district. Anjali had repeatedly objected to their romance, leading the girl to conspire with Shiva and the other minor to eliminate her mother. After the murder, the girl locked the house and threatened her younger sister into silence, but the child managed to alert their aunt.
Police say the killing was premeditated and motivated solely by the mother’s disapproval of the illicit relationship. The trio now faces charges, and further legal proceedings are underway.
