Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday made a bold statement regarding the future of higher education and development in the state. Addressing the 12th annual conference of the Public Affairs Forum of India in New Delhi, he said that if US President Donald Trump does not allow Indian students to study in American universities, those institutions will come to India instead.
The CM revealed that he has already initiated discussions with Harvard and Stanford, and claimed that the London School of Economics is interested in establishing a presence in Telangana. “If Trump does not want to allow Indians, those universities are going to come. We have a place for the best American universities and manufacturing,” he said.
Criticizing Trump’s policies, including the imposition of a 50% tariff, Revanth Reddy said such arbitrary decisions impact the US economy, not India’s. “One day, he says Modiji is my friend, and the next day, he imposes 50% taxes on India. Such impulsive decisions don’t work,” he remarked, while also taking a subtle dig at his predecessor, K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), stating, “Telangana too had a Trump, but he was removed by the people.”
Emphasizing the importance of vision and planning, the CM introduced the Telangana Vision Document – 2047, which is scheduled to be formally released on December 9, 2025. He elaborated on the state’s developmental roadmap, noting that Telangana has been categorized into core urban, semi-urban, and rural zones for balanced growth. Core urban areas, home to nearly one crore people, will see polluting industries shifted outside the city, while semi-urban zones are being developed as manufacturing hubs. The Hyderabad Metro Rail will be expanded from 70 km to 150 km, with daily ridership projected to rise from 5 lakh to 15 lakh. Elevated corridors are under construction to improve urban mobility, and the Musi River Rejuvenation Project aims to transform the riverfront along the lines of the Sabarmati Riverfront. By 2027, Hyderabad is expected to be dominated by electric vehicles, supported by government incentives.
The Regional Ring Road and Bharat Future City projects will meet long-term connectivity needs, linking the airport and Machilipatnam Port via a Greenfield Expressway and parallel railway line. Telangana contributes 40% of India’s bulk drugs and is a global leader in vaccine production. The government leads the country’s efforts in eradicating drug abuse and is committed to promoting organic farming. CM Revanth Reddy invited global and domestic investors to invest in the state and act as brand ambassadors.
To equip youth with industry-ready skills, the government announced the Young India Skill University, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s Young India vision. The Young India Sports University will nurture athletes to achieve success at the Olympics, taking inspiration from nations like South Korea. With these initiatives, CM Revanth Reddy emphasized that Telangana is on a path of planned, sustainable growth, positioning the state as a hub for education, industry, and innovation.
