The growing menace of online betting has become a serious concern, particularly for the younger generation, leading to financial distress and, in many tragic cases, loss of lives. With easy accessibility to betting apps and websites, many individuals are falling into this trap, suffering massive financial losses, and resorting to extreme steps.
In response to this crisis, the Telangana government has initiated a crackdown on online betting platforms. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recently announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to curb these activities and protect vulnerable users.
Meanwhile, Union Railway and Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has also addressed the issue. He stated that the central government does not have exclusive jurisdiction over online betting platforms and emphasized that state governments should take full responsibility in regulating and controlling such platforms based on their prevailing situations.
