Speaking to the media at his residence here, Rajagopal claimed the “star batsmen” would set right the things whenever there was threat to unity of the State. Irrespective of the political parties and governments, Andhra Pradesh would remain in tact, he added.
Stating that there was no truth in the claim of some Congress leaders that Congress would win more seats if Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated, he predicted that the Congress would win 30 MP seats in the State if Andhra Pradesh was kept united. He also said the Congress would announce its decision on Telangana by end of this month.
Rajagopal felt that December 9, 2009 statement made by then Union Home Minister was linked with Assembly resolution on Telangana Statehood. But, TRS Chief K Chandrasekhara Rao did not accept Assembly resolution, which was mandatory for bifurcation of the State, he alleged.
Claiming that public verdict in 2004 and 2009 elections was in favor of united Andhra Pradesh, he exuded confidence that the Congress would for the third time come to power in the State after 2014 elections. The results of recently conducted cooperative elections were indication for reduced emotions among the people of Telangana region. Out of nine Telangana districts, the Congress won eight DCCBs, he pointed out.
The Congress MP said while the separatists were provoking the people for division, but the Congress would never do such thing. He also opined that electoral fight would be between Congress and TDP in the Gram Panchayat elections.
