Tamil Nadu is gearing up for what promises to be one of its most fiercely contested assembly elections in 2026. The political heat is further intensified with the debut of superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s party, TVK, in the electoral arena.
Speculation has been rife about a possible alliance between TVK and the BJP, with many suggesting that Vijay might join hands with the NDA for the upcoming polls. However, Vijay has occasionally criticized the BJP on various issues, signaling a cautious distance. Interestingly, the BJP has largely refrained from retaliating, seemingly keeping the door open for future possibilities.
Adding more clarity to the situation, former Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai recently indicated that an alliance between Vijay and the NDA seems unlikely. “Vijay is very clear about the kind of politics he wants to pursue. He sees the BJP as an ideological opponent and has consistently followed this stance over the past 5-6 months. Given this, I don’t see any possibility of a political alignment happening,” Annamalai remarked.
The fundamental ideological differences between TVK and BJP appear to be the main hurdle. With just about six months remaining before the elections, all eyes will be on how alliances shape up in the coming months.
