Thaman’s OG Music Lands in Plagiarism Row

Thaman, one of Telugu cinema’s leading music composers, has been delivering hit songs and background scores for over 15 years. His recent work for Pawan Kalyan’s They Call Him OG received wide appreciation from fans and critics alike.

Even before the film’s release, Thaman grabbed headlines with his bold comments about Tamil cinema’s recent chartbusters. In an interview, he said that his music for OG would compete with blockbuster albums like Vikram, Jailer, Beast, and LEO, all composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The statement went viral and built huge expectations around his work.

When They Call Him OG hit screens on September 25, the music and background score drew positive responses, especially the powerful theme for the antagonist, OMI. However, controversy soon followed as several listeners pointed out that The Theme OMI sounded strikingly similar to Lumi Uni, a track released last year by Albanian singer-composer Irkenc Hyka.

Fans on social media criticized Thaman, accusing him of copying. His earlier remarks about competing with Tamil hits only intensified the backlash. So far, Thaman has not addressed the plagiarism allegations, and many are waiting to see if he will clarify his stance in upcoming interviews.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Thaman remains busy with major projects. He is composing music for Telusu Kada and Akhanda 2, both slated to release this year, as well as The Raja Saab, which is gearing up for a grand Sankranti 2026 release.
