Popular theatre artiste and writer Chatla Sriramulu passed away at Secunderabad Railway Hospital on Friday. He was 84. Hailing from Vijayawada, Chatla was a Railway employee and was the first announcer at the Secunderabad Railway Station.
He was popular as a theatre actor and had staged many plays in India and abroad. He was awarded Best Actor by Andhra Nataka Kala Parishad twice and was a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Academi Award in 1982.
He had also started an acting school and top actors like Venkatesh and Nagarjuna had trained under him. He had also acted in a few films like Nyayam Kavali and Swapna. He was awarded the certificate of “Producer and Teacher” by the British Drama League, London, in 1970. Most of his life was dedicated to theatre and it’s development.
