Andhra Pradesh Govt., is planning for a nation’s first-ever transparent under water tunnel in Krishna river. It is being taken up in the capital region of Amaravati as proposed in the initial master plan released few days ago. The project is approved by Capital Regional Development Authority(CRDA).

If the said plans are successfully executed, the motorist will have a thrilling experience of watching the aquatic life in real action while driving through the 3-kilometer-long tunnel, CRDA believes that this will be a special attraction for the capital city and will draw tourists in large numbers.

This tunnel will serve the purpose of connecting the financial capital of Vijayawada with the administrative capital Amaravati. Proposed lay-out will have the tunnel starting from the ferry town of Ibrahimpatnam and will be after the city limits of Vijayawada.

AP Govt., would seek the approval of Central Government for proceeding with the project. Couple of such projects are already in planning stages in the state of West Bengal and Union Territory of Andaman Nicobar Islands. Union Ministry have launched feasibility study for these projects and HIDCL (Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited) have invited tenders for techno-economical survey.

As the proposed tunnel will supposedly cost less than an over bridge, CRDA are hoping to seriously pursue the project, it will also bring revenue from tourists. In addition, a mammoth giant wheel size is also planned to bring distinct identity to the Capital region.
