Title Buzz Around SSMB 29 Sparks New Debate After Surprise ‘Varanasi’ Announcement

The much-awaited title reveal for SSMB 29, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, is set to take place on November 15. However, the mystery around the title has taken an unexpected turn.

Recent unverified leaks suggest that the film might be titled “Varanasi.” While it’s not unusual for Rajamouli films to carry culturally rooted titles, a section of fans feels that Varanasi may not reflect the scale of the massive global adventure project that the film is expected to be.

The situation reminds many of the early buzz surrounding RRR, when numerous titles were floated before Rajamouli eventually locked the simple yet impactful RRR, which went on to become a global brand.

But the speculation took a twist when a small production house unexpectedly announced a fantasy film also titled Varanasi. Directed and produced by CH Subba Reddy, the team even released a first-look poster, though without revealing the cast or plot. The timing — just weeks before the Rajamouli–Mahesh title event — caught everyone off guard.

This has led fans to debate whether the smaller team registered the title early to secure rights, or whether SSMB 29 always had an entirely different title in place all along.

Interestingly, Mahesh Babu faced a similar situation during the release of Khaleja. To avoid title confusion with another film, the makers added “Mahesh Khaleja” to the official title.

Now, the big question remains:
Will Rajamouli’s film be titled Varanasi?
Will it undergo a name modification?
Or will the final reveal introduce a completely new and surprising title altogether?

With Rajamouli known for secrecy and late-stage branding decisions, the suspense is only expected to build until the official announcement.
