Tollywood continues to grapple with the menace of piracy, with yet another big film falling prey to illegal circulation. Last month, Ram Charan’s high-budget film Game Changer suffered a major setback when its HD print surfaced on social media just a day after its theatrical release, significantly impacting its box office collections.
Now, the latest victim is Naga Chaitanya’s much-anticipated film Thandel. Shockingly, the HD pirated version of the film was leaked online within a day of its release, mirroring the unfortunate fate of Game Changer. What’s more concerning is that a pirated version of Thandel was even screened inside an APSRTC bus in Andhra Pradesh, sparking outrage among the film’s makers.
Producer Bunny Vaas took to social media to express his disappointment and anger over the incident. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “We have learned through @Way2NewsTelugu that an @apsrtc bus (Service No: 3066) illegally screened a pirated version of our Thandel. This is not just unlawful but also a blatant disrespect to the countless individuals who put their hard work into making this film. Cinema is the dream of artists, the director, and the producers.”
He further urged APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao to take strict action against those responsible. “I request #KonakallaNarayanaRao Garu to take stringent measures and set a strong precedent to prevent such incidents from happening again,” he added.
This is not the first time Tollywood films have faced such illegal screenings. Earlier, Game Changer was reportedly aired on a local cable TV channel in Andhra Pradesh during the Pongal season. These acts of piracy and unauthorized public screenings have become a growing concern for Tollywood producers, causing significant financial losses to the industry.
With repeated incidents of piracy, filmmakers and industry bodies are now urging authorities to take serious action to protect the hard work and investments of the film fraternity.
