KE Gnanavel Raja is one of the leading producers and distributors in the Tamil film industry. He has produced several blockbusters like Paruthiveeran, the Singham franchise and Naan Mahaan Alla etc under his Studio Green banner.
During Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India’s Tamil version’s promotional event in Chennai recently, Gnanavel Raja surprised everyone with some shocking statement on leading Kollywood heroes. “Our heroes charge nearly 50 crores as their remuneration even when their films do a business of just about 100 crores. Producers are finding it tough to manage the remunerations of other cast and crew members and even the production values have come down drastically,” said Gnanavel Raja.
Leaving everyone at the event stunned, Gnanavel Raja threatened to quit Kollywood and shift to Tollywood and make films with Telugu heroes. “No matter how big a star is in Tollywood, they only charge 15 crores as their remunerations. If Kollywood heroes do not follow Tollywood heroes and cut down their salaries, I will quit Kollywood and shift to Tollywood and produce films only with Telugu heroes. It has become extremely difficult to produce movies in Tamil,” Raja said.
