Tragedy at Tirumala: Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Calls for Reform and Accountability

The tragic stampede at Tirumala, which claimed the lives of six pilgrims, has left the administration shaken.

Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan took responsibility for the incident, acknowledging that lapses in the functioning of the relevant authorities contributed to the disaster. He expressed his heartfelt apologies to the public, the advocates of Sanatan Dharma, devotees of Lord Balaji, the injured, and the families of the victims. He assured that appropriate action would be taken against those accountable for the tragedy.

Kalyan emphasized the urgent need for significant reforms in the TTD’s protocols, particularly in shifting its focus from prioritizing VIPs to ensuring “Common Man First.” He called for the TTD to adopt modern crowd management strategies, underscoring the importance of expertise in handling such large gatherings. An inquiry should be conducted to understand how the situation spiraled out of control with just 2,500 devotees attending the Vaikunta Ekadasi darshan, despite the successful management of nearly 4 lakh devotees during the Garuda Seva.
