The Union Minister for Railways, Suresh Prabhu on Wednesday offered to resign from his post by taking “moral responsibility” for the recent rail accidents in Uttar Pradesh.
“I met the Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking full moral responsibility. Hon’ble PM has asked me to wait. I am extremely pained by the unfortunate accidents, injuries to passengers and loss of precious lives. It has caused me deep anguish,” Suresh Prabhu, who’s elected for Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, tweeted.
The deaths of dozens of people when Kalinga-Utkal express derailed out of tracks in Muzzafaragar district, Uttar Pradesh last week triggered Suresh to tender his resignation, but PM Narendra Modi asked him to wait. After Suresh Prabhu was appointed as Union Minister for Railways, six major rail accidents took place in various places of India.
He further tweeted, ‘In less than three years as Minister, I have devoted my blood and sweat for the betterment of the Railways. Undr leadership of PM, tried 2 overcome decades of neglect thru systemic reforms in all areas leading 2 unprecedented investment& milestones. New India envisioned by PM deserves a Rlys which is efficient and modern. I promise that is the path, on which Rlys is progressing now. I am extremely pained by the unfortunate accidents, injuries to passengers and loss of precious lives. It has caused me deep anguish‘
Prabhu, who resigned to Shiv Sena in November 2014, joined BJP and he has been continuously winning the praise for his performance as Railway Minister. In the Railway budget 2015-16, he focused completely on facilities rather than introducing any trains.
