In a rare and striking form of protest, tribal villagers from Marrebu and Dayarthi in Ananthagiri mandal of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Andhra Pradesh, expressed their frustration on Friday over an unfulfilled promise made by Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan.
Back in December last year, Pawan Kalyan laid the foundation for new road projects connecting Gummanti – Rachakeelam, Rachakeelam – Reddipadu, Ballagaruvu – Vajangi, and Peechumamidi – Gummanti. However, more than seven months later, not a single stretch of roadwork has started.
The existing roads remain in terrible condition, forcing residents to walk long distances to access ration supplies, healthcare, and other essential services.
In an attempt to draw attention to their plight, the villagers staged a symbolic protest by riding horses along the rough, uneven roads for nearly three kilometres, highlighting just how difficult travel has become in their region.
Tribal leaders stressed that around 2,500 people living across 11 PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group) villages in Pinakota, Pedakota, and Jeenabadu panchayats continue to live without basic road connectivity. For medical emergencies or even simple provisions, residents must trek several kilometres to the nearest town.
