US President Donald Trump has announced that he has agreed to temporarily suspend planned military strikes on Iran for a period of two weeks, following diplomatic developments and ongoing negotiations aimed at a broader peace deal.
According to Trump, the decision is linked to Iran’s willingness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and continue discussions on a long-term settlement. He stated that the pause was made “based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan,” who reportedly urged restraint amid rising regional tensions.
Trump said the suspension of military action is subject to Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as part of a “double-sided ceasefire” arrangement.
The announcement marks a temporary de-escalation in what had been shaping up as a serious military standoff in the Gulf region. Trump also claimed that the United States had already achieved significant military objectives and was now moving closer to a final peace agreement.
He further revealed that Washington has received a “10-point proposal” from Iran, which he described as a workable foundation for negotiations. According to him, most major points of contention between the two countries have already been addressed, paving the way for a potential breakthrough.
Trump added that the pause would provide both sides time to finalise terms and move toward long-term stability in the region, calling it a positive step toward resolving a prolonged geopolitical conflict.
The statement was posted on Truth Social shortly before his 8 p.m. EST deadline, after he had warned Iran to reach an agreement or face possible military consequences.
