Trump Blasts Musk’s New America Party

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly criticized tech billionaire Elon Musk’s newly announced political outfit, the “America Party,” calling it “ridiculous” and a threat to the established two-party system.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump emphasized his opposition to third-party movements, stating, “We have tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion. Third parties have never worked, so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”

Trump later escalated his remarks on his Truth Social platform, writing, “I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”

Musk announced the formation of the America Party on Saturday, positioning it as a reaction to Trump’s recently signed tax-cut and spending legislation, which Musk called “fiscally reckless.” He claimed the bill could increase the national deficit by $5 trillion and criticized Republican lawmakers who supported it, pledging to campaign against them in upcoming midterm elections.

The rift between Trump and Musk marks a sharp reversal in their once-cordial relationship. Musk had been a high-profile supporter of Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign and contributed significant financial backing. However, tensions mounted after the final version of the spending bill excluded key green-energy provisions that would have benefited Tesla.

In response to Musk’s criticism, Trump has hinted at revoking federal subsidies and government contracts awarded to Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX.

Adding to the controversy, Trump addressed his earlier nomination of billionaire private astronaut Jared Isaacman—a known Musk associate—to lead NASA. The nomination was withdrawn in May. Trump confirmed that concerns over conflict of interest and political alignment played a role in the decision.

“I also thought it inappropriate that a very close friend of Elon, who was in the Space Business, run NASA, when NASA is such a big part of Elon’s corporate life,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “My Number One charge is to protect the American Public!”

The escalating feud between two of the most influential figures in business and politics signals deepening divisions within the conservative landscape as the 2026 election cycle approaches.
