Trump Proposes 500% Tariffs on Nations Buying Russian Energy

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again ignited global discussion with his hardline stance on international trade. In a recent statement, Trump suggested the possibility of imposing tariffs as high as 500% on countries such as India and China for continuing to purchase energy resources from Russia.

This announcement aligns with a new legislative initiative titled the Sanctioning Russia Act of 2025, introduced in April by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close ally of Trump. The proposed bill aims to implement sweeping sanctions on nations that import Russian crude oil, natural gas, uranium, and other petroleum products. It also targets Russian state-owned entities, corporations, and individuals involved in the energy trade.

Trump’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in Eastern Europe, as Russia reportedly carried out one of its most extensive drone attacks on Ukraine to date. Despite these developments, Trump continues to push for renewed diplomatic efforts and peace negotiations.

The proposed legislation and Trump’s rhetoric have raised concerns over potential disruptions in global energy markets and could significantly impact geopolitical alignments, especially among countries maintaining energy ties with Moscow.
