Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States is actively negotiating with Iran and claimed that the conflict had already been “won.” He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after a swearing-in ceremony at the White House.
Trump said discussions with Iran are ongoing and involve top members of his team, including JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Jared Kushner, and Steve Witkoff. He expressed confidence that the Iranian side is willing to reach an agreement.
He suggested that Iran’s leadership has undergone significant changes, calling it a form of “regime change,” and indicated that Tehran had shown flexibility during talks, including possible concessions related to oil, gas, and the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Reiterating a key U.S. position, Trump stressed that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. He also dismissed reports of ongoing conflict, asserting that the opposing side had been “totally defeated.”
At the same time, he described the situation as a “military operation” rather than a war and expressed optimism about a quick resolution, citing positive assessments from defence officials.
Trump also mentioned his discussions with Mohammed bin Salman, whom he described as a “warrior,” highlighting ongoing diplomatic engagement in the region.
