Trump Teases ‘Historic’ Deal with Harvard Amid Clash Over Grants and International Students

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday announced that his administration is in talks with Harvard University to potentially resolve the ongoing dispute involving federal grants and international student admissions.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said a resolution could be reached “over the next week or so,” calling the negotiations “historic.” The announcement follows the administration’s controversial decision to cancel billions of dollars in grants to Harvard and attempt to block the university from admitting international students — actions that triggered legal challenges from the Ivy League institution.

Trump stated that his administration is addressing what he called “improprieties” at Harvard and praised the university’s cooperation during the negotiations. “Individuals at Harvard have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations and appear to be committed to doing what is right,” he wrote. “If a settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be mindbogglingly HISTORIC, and very good for our Country.”

While Harvard declined to comment on Trump’s remarks, the university welcomed a federal judge’s decision on Friday that blocked the Department of Homeland Security from revoking Harvard’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

The court ruled that the agency must follow a formal administrative process before making such a move. In a statement, Harvard affirmed its stance: “We will continue to defend our rights and the rights of our students and scholars.”
