If reports are anything to go by, US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are likely to have a one-on-one meeting soon. Trump telephoned Modi on Monday evening and congratulated him on the BJP’s huge success in the recent general elections in the states including a sweep in the largest state like UP.
During the call, President Trump had emphasised that the United States “considers India a true friend and partner in addressing challenges around the world,” according to a White House readout of the call.
Both the leaders said to have invited each other to their respective capitals and the latest telephone call hints an upcoming personal meeting of both the stalwarts.
The leaders of the two biggest democracies last spoke in January when Trump called Modi and enquired about the security situation in South and Central Asia. And the twain first spoke when Trump elected as the President.
Modi had first spoke to Trump over phone on November 9 soon after he’s been elected as the US President. Modi was among a few international leaders who spoke to Trump within hours of his victory. In the second instance, Trump had called up Modi four days after he sworn-in as US President and White House stated that Trump had emphasised that ‘US considers India a true friend and partner in addressing challenges around the world’.
