Turkey Seizes 1.8 Million Drug Pills in Major Istanbul Raid

Turkish authorities have recently seized nearly 1.8 million illicit drug pills and arrested three individuals in a significant operation in Istanbul, the country’s largest city. The Interior Ministry announced the operation on social media, detailing that it took place in the Kucukcekmece and Esenyurt districts on the European side of the city.

In a video shared by the ministry, armed police units were shown breaking into a manufacturing facility, uncovering large quantities of pills stored in boxes, ready for distribution. The authorities also seized several pieces of equipment, including pill press machines, vacuum machines, and a precision scale, all used in the illicit drug production process.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya emphasized the critical nature of this operation, stressing that combating drug trafficking is not only a matter of security but is vital for the country’s future. “We are present on every street, every avenue, and every corner! We will not allow poison dealers to darken the future of our children,” he said in a statement on social media.

This raid is part of Turkey’s broader intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking, which have been ramped up since 2023. In September 2023, Turkish authorities conducted simultaneous operations across 42 provinces, resulting in the seizure of 479 kg of narcotics and over 160,000 illicit pills. This operation, known as ‘Narkocelik-37’, involved more than 1,400 officers, 12 aerial vehicles, and 37 narcotic detection dogs.

The authorities continue their fight against drug trafficking, with the Ministry emphasizing its commitment to protecting the nation’s future from the dangers posed by illegal narcotics.
