British lawmakers are set to debate a call for U.S. Presidential hopeful Donald Trump to be banned from the United Kingdom over his remarks about Muslims.

More than 5,00,000 people signed an online petition calling for Mr. Trump to be blocked after he called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the U.S. in the wake of attacks by extremists. Monday’s debate won’t result in a binding vote.

Qualifies for debate Under British law, any online petition backed by 1,00,000 people, who must provide and confirm an e-mail address, must be considered for parliamentary debate.

Labour lawmaker Paul Flynn will kick off the three-hour debate, and said he would try to convey the anger of petitioners. “Don’t make him the victim” But he suggested banning Mr. Trump could be “counter-productive” by making him appear to be a victim.
