Kyiv, February 16 (IANS) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that his administration has initiated collaboration with the team of U.S. President Donald Trump, with promising progress towards achieving peace and ending the ongoing conflict with Russia.
“We have begun working with President Trump’s team and can already see that success is attainable. Right now, the world is looking up to America as the power that has the ability to not only stop the war but also help ensure the reliability of peace afterward. Ahead of the Munich Security Conference, I had a productive conversation with the President of the United States, as well as a substantive meeting with Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio,” Zelensky shared in a post on X.
Furthermore, Zelensky revealed that General Kellogg is expected to visit Ukraine soon to assess the situation firsthand and explore potential pathways aligned with President Trump’s proposed peace solutions. “Our teams are working meticulously on a special agreement between our countries—one that will undoubtedly strengthen both America and Ukraine. We are committed to making it a real success, exactly as we agreed,” he added.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, President Zelensky expressed optimism about the role of the U.S. in resolving the crisis. “I hope that we can count on President Trump to help us. I truly believe in his support because he is the President of the United States,” he stated.
However, in a candid address, Zelensky also cautioned that the era of guaranteed U.S. support for Europe is coming to an end. “The old days are over—when America supported Europe just because it always had,” he remarked.
In a separate development, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephonic conversation on Saturday, discussing a range of bilateral issues, including an anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to media reports, both officials agreed to maintain an open channel of communication to address ongoing challenges in U.S.-Russia relations. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the discussions focused on “removing unilateral barriers, inherited from the previous administration, to mutually beneficial trade, economic, and investment cooperation.”
The much-anticipated Ukraine peace talks between Presidents Trump and Putin are expected to take place in Saudi Arabia soon, signaling a potential breakthrough in diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
