UPI Boosts Indian Tourism in France

The adoption of India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in France is making digital transactions easier for Indian tourists while also boosting visitor numbers. Christophe Mariette, Chairman of Lyra Network, revealed in an interview with ANI during the Global Fintech Fest 2025 that integrating UPI at major tourist spots, including the Eiffel Tower, has led to a 40 percent rise in Indian tourists visiting the site.

Mariette explained that the familiarity and security of UPI payments provide Indian travelers with reassurance abroad. Tourists can see the exact amount in rupees and know that the same amount is debited from their account, making transactions simple and secure. “Using your own payment method abroad gives a sense of safety, and UPI ensures transparency and security for Indian tourists visiting France,” he added.

Lyra Network, which has been operating in India for over 18 years, works closely with major banks and holds a payment aggregator agreement with the Reserve Bank of India. Mariette expressed enthusiasm over UPI’s growing acceptance internationally.

Looking forward, UPI payments are expected to be introduced at Bicester Village in France, starting with La Vallee Village. “Indian tourists enjoy luxury shopping with discounts, and Bicester offers exactly that,” he noted, highlighting the expanding connection between India’s fintech ecosystem and global retail destinations.
