Urdu Made 2nd Official Language of Telangana

The Telangana state government has made Urdu second official language of the state. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao made this big announcement in the Assembly on Thursday. Terming it a long pending demand, KCR said the decision has been taken for the protection and promotion of Urdu language.

KCR further said that all the competitive examinations in the state will be conducted in Urdu too. The state government also plans to appoint Urdu officers in all the offices including the CM’s office over the next two months to address public grievances in Urdu also. And, 900 Urdu teachers would be recruited in coming months by forming a special District Selection Committee (DSC).

The TRS govt. had earlier announced to develop an exclusive industrial estate and IT Corridor for Muslim community. They had even passed a Bill to secure 12 percent reservation for the Muslims, but the Bill is yet to be approved by the Centre. Reiterating his commitment to fulfill the promises made to Muslims, KCR has said that if the Centre doesn’t pass the bill to hike Muslim reservation, his govt. may even consider moving the Supreme Court.

The opposition parties have strongly condemned KCR’s ‘Muslim appeasement’ actions and accused him of playing vote bank politics, keeping 2019 elections in mind. They argued that people prefer English or Hindi as second language since either of those languages improve their chances of getting employment.
