Sandeep Thottapilly (41), his daughter Saachi (9) and son Siddhant (12) were recovered from the Eel River in Leggett, California. Body of Sandeep’s wife Soumya (38) was recovered last week.
Nearly 70 searchers were frantically diving into the river waters to retrieve the bodies ever since the maroon Honda Pilot SUV in which the Thottapillys were traveling in plunged into the river on April 6. The Thottapillys were on a road trip to Oregon and were returning to their home in California, when the tragedy struck.
A missing case was reported on April 8 after the family failed to show up for a visit at their relatives place in San Jose. Last week, personal items belonging to the family were found in the Eel River. Relatives of the Thottapilly family identified the items as belongings of their family members. The California Highway Patrol ruled out any foul play in the incident.
Sandeep’s family hails from Surat, Gujarat. He was brought up in Gujarat until he left for America 15 years ago. His parents have been informed about the tragedy. Soumya’s parents live in Kochi, Kerala.
