US Embassy Warns Visa Holders: Compliance Is Key Even After Approval

Securing a US visa is only the first step—holding onto it requires continued compliance with American laws and immigration rules. In a fresh travel advisory released on Saturday, the US Embassy in India cautioned visa holders that their status remains under ongoing scrutiny even after their visa is approved and stamped.

“US visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued,” the Embassy emphasized in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “We continuously monitor visa holders to ensure they comply with US laws and immigration regulations. Failure to do so can result in visa revocation and deportation.”

This advisory aligns with the broader crackdown on illegal immigration and enhanced vetting processes under the US government’s policies. One of the key requirements now includes stricter background checks for all applicants, particularly during the DS-160 visa application process.

As part of this, visa applicants are required to disclose their digital presence. The embassy reiterated that all applicants must provide usernames or handles of every social media platform they’ve used in the past five years. “Applicants must certify that all the information provided in their application is complete and accurate,” the advisory said.

Failing to provide accurate or complete social media details can lead to immediate visa denial and may render the applicant ineligible for future visas. “Omitting this information could result in visa rejection and long-term disqualification,” the embassy warned.

Additionally, students applying under F, M, and J visa categories have been instructed to make their social media accounts publicly visible. According to the embassy, this measure helps facilitate background checks to verify the applicant’s identity and determine their admissibility under US immigration law.

The embassy’s latest advisory underscores the importance of transparency, legal compliance, and full disclosure throughout the visa application and post-approval process.
