At least 100 passengers sustained injuries when a Long Island Rail Road train crashed into a bumping block at Atlantic Terminal in the borough of Brooklyn station on Wednesday. Atlantic Terminal is one of New York’s busiest railway stations.
The disaster struck when a metal piece that is suspected to be from a rail pierced the bottom of the train and got the wheels lifted up in air. However, major catastrophe was averted as the train was moving slowly.
About 600 to 700 passengers were on the train at the time of the mishap as it happened in peak hours. Many of the passengers were standing at the time of the accident as they were about to disembark the train. All the injured passengers were shifted to hospitals and the police and railway officials are investigating the matter.
