US Embassy Issues Stern Advisory on Visa Compliance and Social Media Disclosure

In a recently issued travel advisory, the US Embassy in India has reminded visa holders that securing a US visa is only the first step toward lawful entry and stay in the United States. The advisory underscores that visa holders remain subject to continuous monitoring, even after their visas are issued, and may face revocation and deportation for non-compliance with US laws or immigration regulations.

“US visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued,” the embassy stated in a social media post on X (formerly Twitter). “We continuously check visa holders to ensure they follow all US laws and immigration rules – and we will revoke their visas and deport them if they don’t.”

This advisory aligns with ongoing efforts under the US government’s broader immigration enforcement strategy, particularly heightened during the Trump administration. One significant element of this strategy involves intensified background checks and digital scrutiny for all applicants completing the DS-160 visa application form.

Applicants are now required to disclose all social media handles used over the past five years. The embassy emphasized that failure to provide complete and truthful information could result in visa denial and disqualification from future applications. “Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” the statement added.

The advisory also specifically targets student visa applicants under the F, M, and J categories, instructing them to make their social media accounts publicly visible to aid in identity verification and eligibility assessments under US immigration law.

The embassy’s renewed emphasis on post-issuance compliance serves as a clear warning: violating immigration laws or withholding digital information may have serious consequences, including the loss of visa privileges and removal from the United States.
