USCIS Enforces ‘Catch-And-Revoke’ Policy for Immigrants

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a firm reminder to legal immigrants: green cards and visas are privileges that can be revoked, not guaranteed permanent rights. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), the agency emphasized that any violation of U.S. laws or values could result in immediate revocation of immigration status.

This announcement aligns with the newly introduced “Catch-And-Revoke” policy, launched by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The policy enforces a strict “one-strike” rule — any non-citizen, including green card holders, visa holders, or international students, found violating U.S. laws may face immediate deportation or status cancellation without further warning.

“There is now a one-strike policy: Catch-And-Revoke,” Rubio stated. “Whenever the government catches non-U.S. citizens breaking our laws, we will take immediate action to revoke their status. The era of abusing our nation’s generosity is over.”

The policy shift is seen as a response to mounting criticism of the Biden administration’s handling of national security, especially following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. Rubio has accused the administration of being too lenient toward foreign nationals allegedly involved in extremist activities, particularly on college campuses where Jewish students have reported harassment and intimidation.

The new policy eliminates many of the procedural safeguards previously in place. Under older regulations, immigrants could contest revocations or appeal decisions related to minor legal infractions. These due process protections may no longer be available under the new framework, raising concerns among civil rights advocates.

USCIS reiterated its stance, stating, “Receiving a visa or green card is a privilege. If you support or promote violence, terrorism, or encourage others to do so, you lose the right to remain in the U.S.”

The “Catch-And-Revoke” policy marks a notable shift in U.S. immigration enforcement, signaling stricter oversight and fewer protections for non-citizens found violating laws or involved in politically controversial activities.
