Mega Prince Varun Tej is in desperate need of a solid hit. Over the past few years, most of his films have underperformed at the box office. Movies like Matka, Gandeevadhari Arjuna, and Operation Valentine failed to deliver the expected results, leaving producers with heavy losses and causing a dip in Varun’s market value.
Currently, all eyes are on Varun’s upcoming film with Merlapaka Gandhi, which is shaping up as a love-horror comedy. Said to be inspired by a Korean drama, the film is being crafted as a “Korean Kanakaraju” for Telugu audiences. Expectations are already high, especially with Gandhi’s directorial touch. The project is racing through its final leg of shooting, and an official release update is expected soon.
Apart from this, Varun has also signed another project with director Vikram Sirikonda. Though the film hasn’t gone on floors yet and the title remains unannounced, it is expected to be a romantic drama. Interestingly, the project was put on hold for the past few months, but it recently bounced back into the spotlight after leading OTT platform Netflix acquired its digital rights.
The pre-production work is currently underway, with formal puja and shooting expected to begin after Dussehra 2025. Backed by the prestigious Mythri Movie Makers, this big-budget film is likely to be shot extensively in the USA. Official details are expected soon.
