Vicky Kaushal’s Period Drama Struggles Ahead of Release

Bollywood has faced difficulties in recent years with its high-budget period films, and the situation appears no different for Vicky Kaushal’s upcoming film, Chhaava. Despite the hype and advance bookings now open, the film has failed to make a significant impact on ticketing platforms ahead of its release on February 14.

So far, advance ticket sales have been underwhelming, and many moviegoers seem unaware of the film’s imminent release. Poor promotions, lackluster marketing strategies, and a teaser and trailer that failed to engage audiences have contributed to the film’s struggle to gain traction.

At this point, the movie’s fate largely rests on word-of-mouth buzz. Chhaava will need a massive turnaround to reach the levels of success seen by Bollywood period dramas like Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Otherwise, it may find itself among the ranks of films like Samrat Prithviraj and Panipat that failed to live up to expectations.

The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son, Chhatrapati Shambaji Maharaj, features Vicky Kaushal in the titular role. Directed by Lakshman Utekar and produced by Maddock Films, Chhaava also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in key roles, with the legendary AR Rahman composing the music. The question now is whether the movie can overcome its initial struggles and deliver a compelling story to audiences.
