One of the most tragic incidents in recent South Indian political history occurred in Karur a few weeks ago, when a political rally led by Thalapathy Vijay turned into a stampede, claiming 41 lives.
Following the tragedy, Vijay stayed away from the public eye for several days before meeting the victims’ families. During this interaction, he handed over ₹20 lakh as compensation to the families affected by the disaster.
Now, several days after the incident, Vijay has taken an unexpected stance, openly criticizing Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. In his latest public statement, he held the CM responsible for the series of events that unfolded after the Karur tragedy.
Vijay expressed, “I was in indescribable pain and distress these past days due to losing members of our party family. During our period of silence and mourning, malicious rumors and political narratives were spread to manipulate public perception. All of this seems aimed at undermining law and truth. But we will stand firmly for law and truth and expose these falsehoods. To those lawyers paid crores by the DMK spreading lies, and to the deceitful theatrics of the DMK government—have you forgotten how you were cornered in the Supreme Court?”
Several media theories had attempted to blame Vijay for the Karur stampede, suggesting that he should step down from politics as a gesture of remorse. Vijay’s latest remarks indicate that he believes these narratives were orchestrated, and he directly faults the Chief Minister for fueling the misinformation campaign.
