Actor Vijay Deverakonda recently opened up about his experience with Liger, acknowledging the film as the biggest failure of his career but emphasizing that he harbors no regrets. In an interview with Filmfare, Vijay candidly discussed the personal and professional impact of the film, highlighting the growth and lessons it brought him.
Vijay revealed his deep commitment to the role, undertaking rigorous martial arts training and physically transforming himself to convincingly portray a fighter. He also dedicated significant effort to mastering the character’s stammer, underscoring the challenges that made the process rewarding. “Everything about the role was so challenging that I completely enjoyed the process of making it,” he stated.
A longtime admirer of director Puri Jagannadh, Vijay entered the project with high hopes. Reflecting on the outcome, he expressed disappointment that the film did not meet expectations, describing Liger as “a great idea on paper that we fudged.” Despite this, he reiterated that he holds no regrets about his involvement in the project.
The actor credited Liger’s failure with imparting valuable lessons that have influenced both his career trajectory and personal growth. He believes these experiences will inform his choices and performances going forward.
Liger was highly anticipated as a pan-India venture, produced on a grand scale with backing from Karan Johar. The film featured Bollywood actress Ananya Pandey as the female lead and included a special appearance by legendary boxer Mike Tyson. Vijay actively promoted the film, forecasting it as a major success. However, the movie was met with criticism for its weak storyline, exaggerated characterizations, and inconsistent dialogues, resulting in a disappointing box office performance.
Currently, Vijay is focused on his upcoming project Kingdom, directed by Gautam Tinnanuri, which is scheduled for a worldwide release on July 4. With renewed determination, the actor looks ahead to new challenges and opportunities in his career.
