One actor who has struggled to live up to his enormous box-office potential in the post-COVID era is Vijay Deverakonda. Despite creating massive pre-release buzz, his recent films—Liger, Kushi, The Family Star, and Kingdom—failed to meet expectations and ultimately ended as commercial disappointments.
As a result, 2026 has become a crucial year for the Arjun Reddy star, who is under intense pressure to stage a strong comeback and arrest the downward slide in his career. Determined to turn things around, Vijay has lined up two ambitious projects that could define his future at the box office.
His immediate next film is Ranabali, directed by Taxiwala fame Rahul Sankrityan, followed by Rowdy Janardhana, helmed by Ravi Kumar Kola. Interestingly, both films are scheduled for release within a short span in the second half of 2026, making this a rare and risky move in Vijay’s career.
According to reliable sources, Ranabali is eyeing a September release, while Rowdy Janardhana is expected to hit screens in December. Vijay will be shooting for both projects simultaneously with minimal breaks, as the makers are pushing hard to wrap up production on time. If everything goes according to plan, this will mark the first time Vijay Deverakonda delivers back-to-back releases within just four months.
Ranabali is being mounted as a periodic action drama set against the rugged Rayalaseema backdrop, with an intriguing connection to the British era. The film is said to feature a bold, unconventional narrative, making it one of Vijay’s most unique projects to date.
On the other hand, Rowdy Janardhana is touted as a raw, intense mass entertainer, loaded with brutal action, bloodshed, and high emotional stakes, also set in a period milieu. The film promises to showcase Vijay in a ferocious and unapologetically violent avatar.
Notably, both films have generated solid hype solely based on their announcements, reflecting the audience’s continued faith in Vijay’s star power. With expectations riding high, the actor desperately needs a major commercial success from either—or ideally both—of these films to reclaim his standing and revive his career momentum.
