Saiyaara Hits ₹500 Cr Amid Copy Row

Bollywood’s latest romantic sensation Saiyaara, released last month, has shattered box office records by entering the ₹500 crore club, making it the first-ever Hindi romance drama to achieve this milestone globally. The film’s phenomenal success has catapulted its lead actors, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, to overnight stardom.

However, the film’s triumph has been accompanied by controversy. Since its release, social media has been abuzz with allegations that Saiyaara’s storyline has been “lifted” from the acclaimed Korean classic A Moment to Remember. Addressing the speculation, the film’s writer, Sankalp Sadanah, urged audiences not to jump to conclusions without watching both films.

“Both Saiyaara and A Moment to Remember are out there. Watch both, and you’ll be able to tell whether it’s inspired, a copy, or an original,” Sadanah said. He revealed that the film was conceived during an emotional exchange with director Mohit Suri, not from a pre-written screenplay. “Saiyaara wasn’t driven by plot mechanics or formulas,” he clarified, dismissing suggestions that it was a sequel to Aashiqui.

Viewers drawing comparisons have pointed to the central theme shared by both films — a young couple whose romance is tested when the female lead is diagnosed with a degenerative memory condition, leading the male lead to care for her. While the premise may echo the Korean film, Sadanah insists that Saiyaara was born from an original emotional core rather than imitation.
