Vishwak Sen’s Comeback Bid with ‘Cult

Share

Vishwak Sen, fondly known as Mass Ka Das, has already proven his mettle as an actor. However, his journey as a director remains under scrutiny. While his debut directorial, Falaknuma Das, became a cult hit and marked a bold and impactful entry into direction, his second directorial venture, Das Ka Dhamki, failed to meet expectations and didn’t fare well at the box office.

Following this setback, Vishwak shifted his focus back to acting. Yet, despite several efforts, he couldn’t deliver a solid hit. Films like Laila were met with harsh criticism, forcing him to publicly apologize to his fans and promise better choices in the future.

Interestingly, Vishwak could have capitalized on the momentum from the success of Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi to scale up as an actor. But instead, he took a daring route early in his career by donning multiple roles—actor, director, and producer—with Falaknuma Das. The film not only showcased his talent on screen but also hinted at the potential he possessed behind the camera.

Currently, Vishwak is working on Funky, directed by Anudeep—renowned for his breezy entertainers. But the project generating the most buzz is Cult, his directorial comeback. Produced by Sai Kiran, son of former Cinematography Minister Talasani Srinivasa Yadav, and with music composed by KGF fame Ravi Basrur, Cult is shaping up to be a crucial film for Vishwak.

After a rough phase and mounting criticism, Cult could be his shot at redemption as a filmmaker. Vishwak is carefully laying the groundwork for his return to direction, while striving to strike a perfect balance between his roles as an actor and a director. Only a hit with Cult can reaffirm his credibility behind the camera and bring him closer to his ambitious dream—crafting a sequel to Falaknuma Das.
