Vishwambhara vs Chiru 157: Clash or Compromise?

Share

Vishwambhara, touted as the most expensive film in Megastar Chiranjeevi’s career, is yet to finalize its release date. However, director Vassishta has recently begun a series of media interactions, sparking discussions among fans and industry watchers. The timing is particularly noteworthy, as Anil Ravipudi’s aggressive promotional campaign for Chiru 157 has started to dominate headlines. Industry sources suggest that Vishwambhara’s team initiated this media push to level the publicity field — likely with Chiranjeevi’s full backing.

UV Creations, the production house behind Vishwambhara, is reportedly targeting an official release date announcement on August 22, coinciding with Chiranjeevi’s birthday. If current plans hold, the film will hit theatres in the third week of October. This development puts Chiru 157 — which is being geared for a Sankranti 2026 release — in a delicate position.

While it may seem logical to space out two major Chiranjeevi films, convincing director Anil Ravipudi to postpone may not be easy. Known for his clear vision and confidence, Anil had earlier made waves with his announcement Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, hinting at a firm Sankranti slot.

If both films release as currently planned — Vishwambhara in October and Chiru 157 in January — it will mark a rare occurrence in Chiranjeevi’s career. The last time the star had two releases within such a short span was during the 1980s. In today’s box office landscape, such a move could be risky, regardless of star power. Even Pawan Kalyan’s double-header with Hari Hara Veera Mallu and OG followed a more spaced strategy.

If Anil Ravipudi agrees to defer the release, Chiru 157 might move to summer 2026. Otherwise, audiences could witness a high-stakes double feature season with Chiranjeevi headlining two big-ticket films within weeks. The final call rests with the Megastar — and the outcome could shape the Telugu release calendar in a significant way.
