The much-awaited action entertainer War 2 is gearing up for a grand release on August 14, with Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. leading the charge. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, this sequel is not only high on star power but is also creating massive buzz in trade circles for its record-breaking box office ambitions.
The makers have reportedly set an ambitious goal — to gross ₹175 crore worldwide on Day 1. If achieved, this would surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (₹130 Cr Day 1 gross) and bring Bollywood closer to competing with pan-India blockbusters like Pushpa 2, which holds the top spot with a staggering ₹250 Cr release-day gross.
To maximize reach and revenue, the team has already locked exclusive IMAX screens and is planning a massive worldwide release. Adding to the hype is NTR’s pan-India appeal, especially in Telugu-speaking states and overseas markets such as the USA, UAE, and Australia. Combined with Hrithik Roshan’s fanbase in North India and global markets, War 2 is being seen as a potential crossover success for Bollywood.
However, War 2 faces stiff competition. It’s set to clash with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, another high-octane pan-India film releasing on the same day. This clash may limit screen count in Tamil Nadu, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala—territories crucial for mega openings.
Despite the hurdles, trade experts believe War 2 could be a game-changer. If it hits the ₹175 Cr target, it could mark Bollywood’s return to dominance in pan-India cinema and secure Hrithik Roshan’s position among the Day 1 kings.
