West Indies Pulls Off A Stunner To Lift T20 World Cup

With a target of 19 runs to win in the last over and a part-time batsman Carlos Brathwaite at strike, everyone would have thought West Indies will lose the match. But, Carlos pulls off a stunner and hits the last four balls out of the park as the Caribbeans lift the ICC T20 World Cup in a cracker of a finale.

Batting first, England put up a handsome score of 155 for 9 in 20 overs, after losing 3 early wickets. England’s trump card Joe Root has once again sizzled with a 56 runs off 34 balls knock, well supported by Jos Buttler who hit 36 runs in 22 balls. Windies bowlers Bravo and Carlos Brathwaite picked up 3 wickets each.

Chasing a seemingly achievable target of 156, the West Indies too lost 3 quick wickets of its openers Johnson Charles, Chris Gayle and Lendl Simmons with only 11 runs on board. However, Marlon Samuels (85) and Dwayne Bravo (25) got the Windies back on track with their responsible innings.

Even then things were seemingly difficult for the Windies in the end, until Carlos Brathwaite played one of the most sensational death overs knock on T20s history. Icing on the cake is that even the West Indian women’s team lifted the world cup beating Australia today. Last month, the WI U19 boys too lifted the world cup, so it’s triple celebrations for West Indies cricket.
