Looks like the glorious honeymoon between TDP and BJP is in its final stages. Looking at BJP’s response to AP’s long pending demands and needs with the recently introduced railway budget and today’s union budget, cracks in the TDP-BJP friendship are seen wide and clear.
Days before the introduction of budget in Lok Sabha today, Chandrababu made repeated requests to Modi and Jaitley for additional funds to the 7 backward districts in the state.
Here are some of the demands made by Chandrababu to the centre:
Sanction of subsidies for investments in Amaravati
Setting up of infrastructure in the capital city
Funds for the Vijayawada and Vizag metro projects
The long pending demand of special status for the state
4,000 crore for Amaravati construction
4,000 crore for Polavaram project
3,500 crore for the development of national institutions in the state
Even after understanding AP’s justified demands, the BJP government offered peanuts to AP in the union budget. Following are the funds allocated to the state in for the fiscal year 2016-17:
Polavaram Project – Rs. 100 Crore
Vijayawada Metro – Rs.100 Crore
IIT – Rs. 20 crore
Tirupati IIT – Rs. 40 crore
IIM Visakhapatnam – Rs. 30 crore
NIT Tadepalligudem – Rs. 40 crore
Tirupati IISCR – Rs. 40 crore
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant – Rs.1678 crore
Visakhapatnam Port Trust – Rs. 231.61 crore
Central University – Rs. 1 crore
Girijan University – Rs. 1 crore
The total budget allotted to AP amounts to Rs. 24,637.36 Crore where as the state government submitted proposal worth Rs. 1.8 lakh crore.
