There are many major parties in the country and a few parties have recognition as national parties. After the ED raided the offices of many political offices which are registered as parties but not functioning. People got to know that many parties are registered with the Election Commission but not in a functioning state.
A few regional parties have members who are serving as the national president despite the party being present in just one state. Now let us look at the definition of a national party as per the Election Commission of India.
The definition of the Election Commission of India says that the members of the party should have contested in Parliament or Assembly elections in four or more states. The party should record at least 6 percent of votes and the votes should be valid ones.
The concerned party should have four members in the Parliament either from one state or multiple states. In four states, the party should have recognition as a regional party. Or else, the party should have at least 2 percent of total Lok Sabha seats.
The two percent of the seats should not be from a single state. The members should be from three different states.
It is known that Telangana Chief Minister KCR announced a change in his party name. The existing TRS now became BRS. In regard to the party name change, the Election Commission has been informed. To get recognised as the national party, the BRS now has to follow all the guidelines.
