Not many know that Superstar Rajnikanth used to be a regular alcohol drinker when his career is at peaks in the mid 80s and 90s. Everyday he used to sip alcohol in the nights though he prays to Lord Raghavendra so strictly in the day. And guess who was his boozing mate sometimes..
Maestro Ilayaraja, whose name itself sets the swara of music into rhythm used to give company to Rajnikanth. When these two start drinking, there is no stopping for their act until the wee hours. After taking couple of pegs, Ilayaraja used to share lot of gossip about other producers and actors.
This used to happen during the music sessions for Rajni-Ilayaraja films. However things changed later as Ilayaraja turned completely devotional and quit alcohol. Same is the case with Superstar too.
‘Raaja sir changed to Raaja Swamy after some years and we stopped our drinking sessions’, says Rajni, revealing the well-kept secrets of their friendship. Speaking at the audio launch of ‘Shamitabh’ movie, whose music is scored by Ilayaraja, Rajni revealed these things.
