Senior hero Rajendra Prasad’s 85 vote majority win over Jayasudha has led media to corner outgoing MAA president Murali Mohan. As the Telugu adage goes, ‘Pallu Vunna Chettuke Raallu’, observers feel that Murali Mohan is a fruit bearing tree that’s getting stoned now for unneeded reasons.
To be pretty clear, what made Jayasudha foray into election race and stand against Rajendra Prasad is something different altogether. But coming to what Murali Mohan has done at MAA, surely he wouldn’t have taken mindless decisions. He is promising MP of Telugudesam party, and known for his charity work. Any person at that stage, of that stature, tend to make decisions in the best interest of whole body but not favouring a few. MAA is neither a multi-crore real estate venture nor a money-spinning independent institution like a our cricket board. So, what’s the need to do politics there?
Mainly he is criticised for not being close to poor MAA members and help them financially. But Murali Mohan has his own reasons. He spends funds as per the requirement, and draws expenditure only from the interest MAA gets on 3.5 crores fixed deposit. Otherwise, if he doesn’t spend wisely, it won’t take months for that 8 digit figure to read a single digit.
On all counts, this former hero of Tollywood, Murali Mohan, has got reasons that can’t buy votes, but those reasons are not the ones that require criticism. Winning or losing is different from serving, and he has done justice to the seat, say many members. Furthermore, all MAA members are a family and not any warring factions if media wants to prove any.
