Why Rajinikanth Missed Out on Manchu Vishnu’s Kannappa

Kannappa is steadily gaining traction in the Telugu film industry, especially after its grand pre-release event held yesterday. With Manchu Vishnu actively promoting the film, the anticipation around this ambitious project is reaching new heights. However, one question continues to spark curiosity — why is Superstar Rajinikanth not a part of this dream Manchu project?

Given the decades-long friendship between Rajinikanth and Mohan Babu, and Vishnu’s own affectionate reference to the superstar as “uncle,” many expected Rajinikanth to feature in some capacity in Kannappa. After all, the film is positioned as a prestige project for the Manchu family, boasting a stellar cast and grand scale.

Addressing the media’s curiosity, Vishnu Manchu revealed that the team indeed conceived a special role for Rajinikanth, one that was intended to share screen space with Mohan Babu. However, after careful consideration, the writers felt that this subplot was veering off from the film’s core theme and would disrupt the narrative flow. As a result, the decision was made to remove the character altogether, despite the initial excitement.

Still, Kannappa features an ensemble cast including Mohan Babu, Mohanlal, Mukesh Rishi, Sharath Kumar, Siva Balaji, Brahmanandam, Sapthagiri, Kaushal Manda, Madhoo, and others. Adding to the buzz, Prabhas will be seen in a crucial role, further raising expectations.

With high production values and a mythological premise, Kannappa is slated for a theatrical release on June 27th, and is being closely watched as one of the biggest releases of the year.
