Hyderabad is one of the best places to reside in. But, situations are not the same now due to uneven and worst weather conditions. With monsoon playing truant and meager rainfall recorded in Hyderabad and surrounding districts, there were no inflows into major reservoirs which cater to the drinking water needs of over 90 lakh population of Greater Hyderabad, Secunderabad (Cantonment) and villages and mandals of neighboring districts.
To add to their worries, irregular power cuts are compounding the problem as water from Krishna, Singur, Manjira which are 80-100 kms away, are failing to provide water to the city. As against the demand of 490 Million Gallons of water per day (MGD), the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply Board claims to supply about 340 MGD but in reality not even 320-330 MGD is being supplied.
Another big problem, Hyderabad citizens are currently facing is sudden drops in temperatures. City temperatures fell down from 17.5 deg to 12.5 deg. Public can’t come out of homes before 9 in the morning and can’t leave homes after 5 in the evening. The cold conditions have become big quandary for old people.
Patients and their relatives staying in government hospitals are going through tough times because of this. Although GHMC is planning to build night shelters in hospitals, the management in several hospitals is not ready to provide place.
